Our Story
On June 28, 2011, our founder, Bekina Mirekuah Mensah was moved by a TV3 news story about two boys needing kidney dialysis at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, especially one named Isaac Yiadom, whose family could not afford treatment. Inspired to help despite limited personal funds, Bekina realized that small contributions from many people could make a big difference. By mobilizing friends and contacts, mostly through Facebook, they raised GH¢400 within three weeks, which contributed to Isaac’s treatment. Soon, all the needed funds for his surgery were secured. After this experience, the she felt a calling to help other underprivileged individuals and communities.
Together with ten friends, they created the Helplan (Help and Plan) Foundation, with the vision of providing organized and sustainable support to the less privileged. As Helplan Foundation continues to grow and expand its reach, our vision is to create a global network of compassion and kindness. We aim to unite over 10,000 members and partners from diverse backgrounds and cultures, all working together to make a tangible difference in the lives of the vulnerable and disadvantaged communities worldwide. Through collective efforts, we envision a future where everyone has access to basic necessities, opportunities, and support. Our goal is not just to provide aid, but to empower individuals and communities to thrive. With every donation, volunteer hour, and partnership, we move closer to realizing our mission of creating a more just and compassionate world, where no one is left behind. Together, we can make a lasting impact and inspire a ripple effect of kindness that resonates globally.
At Helplan Foundation, our mission is simple yet powerful: to uplift the less privileged by providing essential human needs—food, clothing, medical care, and other forms of support. We believe that with access to these basic necessities, every individual can become empowered to lead a meaningful and productive life. We envision a world where poverty, vulnerability, and disadvantage do not prevent anyone from living with dignity. A world where compassion drives action, and every person has the opportunity to thrive.
Our guiding philosophy is “Living to Give.”
We are driven not by what we give, but by the joy we inspire and the lives we transform. Whether it’s through time, resources, or skills, we believe everyone can contribute to a better tomorrow.
